Two Goannas/Bula Gugaa - Artwork by Sean James Cassidy in collaboration with the Wiradjuri artists Scott Turnbull and Scott Sauce Towney

The Australian Institute of Physics operates from many locations all across Australia. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, learn and live. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

Two Goannas/Bula Gugaa
Artwork by Sean James Cassidy in collaboration with the Wiradjuri artists Scott Turnbull and Scott Sauce Towney. The goanna is the totem of the Wiradjuri Nation and the two goannas, joined at the hip, depict an elder mentoring a student. The shape they create is a figure 8 which alludes to the 8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning, it also appears to form a leaf which signifies a new beginning. The design forms part of an installation that sits in the Rotary Peace Park in Parkes NSW.
