Perth Observatory Summer Lecture

March 16, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

$10 – $15

Every year, Perth Observatory invites everyone to come along to the observatory on a warm summer evening, to hear about everything that’s new in the wonderful world of astronomy and space science.

This year’s lecture speaker is Astronomer Stacy Mader!

Stacy will give his perspective on his time at Parkes Observatory covering the large (and small) surveys he has been involved with, plus his work with NASA on the Mars rovers Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity and Voyager 2.
The second part of the lecture he’ll offer a perspective of the Orion region, from his own research in star formation and how other cultures have viewed the region over time. He’ll draw examples from the Greeks, Egyptians and Australian Indigenous groups. The evening will also include performances by Madjitil Moorna Aboriginal Choir.

There will a coffee and food van(s) (If there’s no total fire ban in place) on the night and closer to the date we’ll contact you to organise a beautiful picnic food baskets from Hainault Vineyard if you would like one.

Please Note: The summer lecture will still go ahead rain, hail or alien invasion. If on the day there is a good chance of rain then the summer lecture will be moved to Lesmurdie High School (View Map) and you’ll be informed via email and/or phone call.

Tickets from $10 + booking fee.
