A Night With The STARS: Women In Physics Public Lecture + National Science Week Lecture, and more!

August 17, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm

The AIP is excited to announce an upcoming FREE public evening of science, art and astronomy right here in Melbourne, to help celebrate National Science Week. “A Night with The STARS”, to be held on August 17 at Swinburne University’s Hawthorn Campus, features TWO public lectures by outstanding researchers in laser physics and astronomy, an astronomy-meets-art exhibition, and refreshments in between. It really is an evening science for the whole family not to be missed!

Headlining the evening will be the 2018 AIP Women in Physics public lecture, presented by Dr Ceri Brenner (Central Laser Facility, UK) with her presentation “Igniting Stars with Super Intense Lasers”. Following the WIP lecture will be an hour of refreshments and access to the astronomy inspired art exhibition “Deeper, Darker, Brighter”, courtesy of resident Swinburne artists Pamela Bain and Carolyn Lewens. A second public lecture will follow, delivered by Dr Rebecca Allen (Swinburne) with her presentation “State of the Universe VIII –the people’s edition”. At the conclusion of the night, a public telescope viewing will be on offer (weather permitting).
