AIP Honours Scholarship Scheme
AIP Scholarship Scheme
Closing date for submission to branch chair is 15 December 2008
AIP established the Scholarship Scheme to celebrate the Einstein International Year of Physics 2005 in Australia.
The purpose of the Scheme is to provide two scholarships to two suitably qualified candidates. Currently we have funds for one scholarship of $10k which is funded by the AIP and a generous donation from a member. We also have a new CSIRO – AIP honours scholarship worth $15k with the same selection criteria but one extra requirement of a link with CSIRO such as via supervision/ joint project/collaboration/use of CSIRO facilities etc.
Eligibility
Candidates for the scholarship will only be eligible to be awarded a scholarship by AIP where they are:
i) enrolled in the final year of a degree with a physics major (AIP accredited)
ii) undertaking an honours year of study in the year following the award of the scholarship.
iii) able to demonstrate excellence and commitment to physics
iv) enrolled in full time study for the year they hold the scholarship
Selection Criteria
The AIP must the best select candidates on the basis of:
i) excellence in the candidate’s academic record for second year AND
ii) either the candidate’s academic record for second semester of second year and first semester of third year (for third year students) OR first and second semester of third year (for post third year students) AND
iii) a cover letter provided by the candidate of no more than one page explaining the candidate’s motivation to study physics including an outline of their plans for further studies and research AND
iv) a letter of support from the Head of Department or Lecturer from the candidate’s third year courses AND
v) (For the CSIRO-AIP scholarship) an email from the CSIRO staff member that is hosting the student’s activities with CSIRO AND

Each state and territory of Australia can submit one application for each scholarship to the AIP executive for consideration using the following process. Candidates must submit their applications to the Head, or representative, of the Physics Department who submits their universities applicant to the local AIP Branch Chair.
